Bad Shows!

We had a bad show. Really bad. Miserable. A big, fat zilch of a show. It was hot, it was humid, my hip hurt, I had heat exhaustion, Joe was melting, and no one bought a thing. I heard people saying, “Well, at least it didn’t rain.” Yeah, right. I would have welcomed rain.

Even worse, we were low-balled so low on our cute shaggy chair, we would have been at the bottom of Loch Ness. And to throw injury after insult, (I know this is backwards!) by the time we got home, I literally couldn’t walk, and had to be pushed, prodded, and supported to get into the house.

I’ve been nursing that hip now for five days and it hasn’t improved. I’m just hanging out waiting for my doctor appointment tomorrow. On the bright side, it’s allowed me to catch up on my blog posts, and restart my Etsy shop, but I believe Joe and I are at a crossroads with our business.

Our minds and spirits are willing, but our bodies are not. Joe spent twelve days in the hospital in June for what was to be a simple hernia repair. It turned out to be not so simple, and as a result his digestive system would not wake up. He didn’t eat for ten days, lost a lot of weight and a lot of strength. His recovery has been slow, and he requires more rest than usual.

I have back, hip, and knee issues. This current hip problem is the worst I’ve had and it’s forced me to skip this coming week’s show. I’m hoping it’s treatable, but right now I’m hobbling around with a walker. Our next show is August 4th, and we’re hoping against hope that we’ll be well enough to participate, and that it won’t be hotter than hell.

Obviously, we’re not getting any younger, but we love creating, and we really do like the human contact, and the atmosphere of art shows. We’ve come to the conclusion, though, that heat-of -the- summer art fairs are not for us. Next year, Spring, Fall, Winter, that’s where you’ll find us. Online, Etsy, that’s where you’ll find us.

And I really do hope you’ll find us!
